NATO moves Canadian area of responsibility

NATO Generals have moved the Canadian area of operations to Arghandab .Canadians were their previously and replaces by US Troops. Canada will now replace the US contingent. This is an area known for Bandits.

By The Canadian Press

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - With U.S. President Barack Obama set to announce a new strategy for Afghanistan, NATO commanders have changed Canada's area of responsibility in the country.

Brig. Gen. Frederick Hodges, director of operations for NATO's southern command, says Canada will take control of the Arghandab district north of Kandahar city.

Hodges says Task Force Kandahar will have an additional American battalion and an Afghan National Army unit under its command by the new year.

He stressed the changes would go ahead regardless of whether Obama decides to deploy additional troops to the south.

Hodges says NATO will first focus on deepening its hold in Kandahar before using whatever extra troops are deployed to clear neighbouring Helmand province.

Does anyone think that this troop surge is going to work? Then we have to go back in a area that we have already cleared sometime ago.If we have to keep going back to area's that we have helped in the past are we doing any good.Bring them home(2011),give them a good rest and start to rebiuld.I think when it's done you will see more people getting out because of baby boomers and there won't be the extra $3000 to $4000 a month in overseas pay that they would get if they were in Afgan! For some of these troops that why they are going there.Do the math. That's alot of money after 3 or 4 tours. But the real question is,What does your family have left when your not there anymore.
