A couple more reasons to Thank the Military

Many Canadians do not realise that our Military community assists the general public here at home. In my day it was called Aid to the Civil Power, whether clearing snow, moving Cattle from flood zones , disaster relief or Search and Rescue

. Over the past couple of Days The military has dropped 2 SAR Techs onto an Ice Floe near in Nunavit. A dangerous Rescue to say the least. They are there to assist in first aid and comfort for a 17 year old local hunter who was trapped on the floe. Landing on Ice floes with frigid water all around, did not deter the Sar Techs from Jumping Brave Professionals they are.

The second aid to civil power comes from PEI.

Reservists on P.E.I. were immunized for swine flu late last week, and the Armed Forces brought along 500 extra doses for the general public.

The military has its own stockpile of vaccine in order to ensure it is ready to assist in the event of a domestic emergency. Last Thursday 169 reservists on P.E.I. rolled up their sleeves to get the H1N1 vaccine.

The reserve population is a large component of our domestic response, Cmdr. Peter Clifford told CBC News Friday.

What we have done in all cases, and in this case on P.E.I., is ensure that all of our members are offered the opportunity to receive the vaccine.

The Forces mobile unit that came to vaccinate P.E.I. reservists also brought 500 doses for the general public.

Clifford said the Forces slowed down its own vaccine rollout so it could give some to provincial Health Departments, which are experiencing a shortfall.

Dr. Heather Morrison, P.E.I.'s chief health officer, said the province was pleased to get the extra doses.

They released their doses across the country and on a sort of per capita basis, so we received 500 additional doses that we weren't expecting, said Morrison.

They will be used this week to vaccinate people in high-risk groups, she said, such as people with chronic health conditions and young children.

Clifford said that close to 95 per cent of Forces personnel in the Atlantic region who were offered the vaccine decided to get the shot.

From their 1 219 metre perch, on the open ramp of the CC-130 Hercules, all anyone can see is white. In all directions, the snowy plains stretch with no sign of civilization. Then, out of nowhere, a tiny built-up area appears from underneath the aircraft, effectively signalling to the six men that it is time. After one last equipment check, making doubly sure that every inch of their body is covered, they leap into the -40C air, leaving the warmth and safety of the Hercules behind as they fall toward the frigid ice floe.

CORAL HARBOUR, Nunavut - A teen who was trapped on an ice floe after he got separated from a friend while snowmobiling in Nunavut has been rescued but is suffering from hypothermia

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre at CFB Trenton in Ontario says two search-and-rescue technicians parachuted onto the ice after the youth was spotted from the air.

A rescue boat from Coral Harbour picked up the 17-year-old and took him back to the community for medical treatment.

To the SAR Techs, Herc Crew and the PEI Regiment

BRAVO ZULU

Thanks also to the Canadian Government for recognising the sacrifices made by soldiers with the issue of the first of many new Sacrifice Medals to recognize soldiers who die on military service, not just those targeted during combat.

So as tomorrow is our official Remembrance day Please Remember those who are currently serving as well as their brothers in arms who have died for Canada.

A sad disrespectful act of mindless destruction has been reported in Fredericton. NB the wanton desecration of a Cenotpah. I hope these Vandals are caught and made to pay full restitution for repairs, and sent to JAIL for a long Time.( My Thought)

Members of Fredericton's Royal Canadian Legion are asking vandals who destroyed part of the city's cenotaph to turn themselves in as the organization prepares for Remembrance Day.

Jean-Guy Perrault, the president of Branch 4 of the Royal Canadian Legion, arrived at the cenotaph on Monday morning to decide where to place the crosses for Wednesday's Remembrance Day ceremony. That's when he noticed that the cenotaph had been heavily damaged in places.

I almost fell on my knees. It hurt. Like I said how can people sleep at night who did that for the poor soldiers who fought for our country, for what we have that is so beautiful, Perrault said.

The cenotaph is the site of the main Remembrance Day event in the provincial capital. A three-metre-high granite cross atop the monument was toppled to the ground and smashed into pieces.

Remember Everyone Deployed

there just isn't any respect in this country
by young or older people with the wanton destruction of this monument or
other propertys, the country is in bad enough mess as is,and these people are our future, head for the hills,we are not
safe.when they took away the strap or
    switch society began its downfall.
Those in charge of inforcement need to follow this till they are caught.
