Remembrance Week Lest we Forget

I rteceived this important reminder from Ed Oursien in NB.

Subject: On November 11th Remember the Peacekeeper, for he is your soul, the Spirit of the Nation

REMEMBER THE PEACEKEEPER, FOR HE IS YOUR SOUL, THE SPIRIT OF THE NATION

This message is passed to you from the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association.

Remembrance Week has begun and those who have served Canada overseas since 1947 would like to remind you of their personal loss and sacrifice. Remembrance week takes place from 4 to 12 November.

We shall remember 170 of our friends and colleagues who died on peacekeeping missions with the United Nations, with NATO, and the multinational missions. They gave thier lives in the service of peace.

Not to be forgotten are the over 100 souls who died protecting our freedom during the Cold War in Europe from 1949 to 1999 ready to defend the West against Soviet communism. Pray to remember those who died saving lives on active service in Canada and with NORAD as well.

Remember our 132 brothers and sisters in arms who have made the ultimante sacrifice fighting with NATO against terrorism in Afghanistan.

On November 11th, when the Act of Remembrance is read and you observe those two minutes of silence, remember those who nobly gave their lives in the service of peace and for the cause of freedom and democracy. Let us also pray for all those presently serving in Afghanistan and around the world with peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.

Please be reminded that a service person that dies on duty is part of our military family and all of us who are the members of this extended military family also feel the loss personnally. If you meet a Veteran during Remembrance Week give them a handshake and say thank you. They survived defending your right to live in peace and security.

Please buy a poppy and pass this message on.

A Veteran - whether active duty, retired or reserve - is someone who at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank cheque payable to the Country of Canada , for an amount of up to and including my life.

I, as well am also proud to have served, in the service of Peace in the Golan Heights in Israel and wear my medals, which includes the Canadian Peace Keeping Service Medal and the Special Service Medal, with pride.

Thank you Veterans. Lest we Forget.
