Military Blog Site - with Robby McRobb Blog

With another sad Repatriation yesterday an appropriate e-mail received.

Canada has now lost 129 soldiers since the Afghanistan mission began in 2002.

I have not seen figures respecting the number of Canadian soldiers wounded or injured in Afghanistan , but that number is certainly higher than those killed.

Many young men and women will have had their health impaired and their lives seriously damaged or shortened.

If you pray, remember them in your prayers. If you don't pray honour them with the respect they deserve.

They are risking their lives for a better Afghanistan , for Canada and for you. And don't forget those Canadian Forces personnel on Peace Support Operations in other parts of the world.

A message from a sombre Governor General in Kandahar

While spending a couple of days with our troops The Hon Michelle Jean Governor General of Canada and Honourary Commander in Chief of the Armed forces had this to say.

The Canadian Press

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean has wrapped up a two-day whirlwind tour of Afghanistan, where she's encouraging Canadian soldiers to stay the course in helping better the lives of the Afghan people.

Jean, honorary commander-in-chief of the Canadian Forces, says she's saddened that there is any debate at all over whether Canada should be helping the country's less fortunate.

She says the suggestion it's a lost cause hurts her deeply.

Jean was moved to tears on a number of occasions, most notably when visiting the war memorial at Kandahar Airfield and when she talked to a nine-year-old Afghan girl who lost a leg in a bomb blast.

During her visit, which was kept secret for security reasons, she told soldiers the good work they are doing in Afghanistan would not be forgotten.

The governor-general says it's important that Canadians understand the value of the work both the military and civilians are doing.

So we have the words from a couple of Veterans and the words of our Governor General. God Bless them one and all. Please show your support visually tomorrow on Red Friday.

Let us ressurect the Yellow Ribbon Campaign Show you care.

Thank you . Merci, Danke, Gracias,Spaceba.

Not sure if this sends the right message to the troops? There Commander and Chief can't get through a topic like this where she starts to crying in public.Sounds to me like a stunt to drum up support for the mission that is failing. My opinion.

Just wondering when the next gathering for support of the troops is going to be?I would like to see it in another part of the island, there are supporters elsewhere besides Charlottetown and would love to show support too.
