Haiti, Namibia,Kosovo,Cyprus as well as Afghanistan. These courageous men and women go to teach policing or to investigate crimes on behalf of the United Nations. Thankyou one and all for your dedication and service to Queen and Country.

An RCMP sergeant from Ottawa is recovering after a suicide car bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, over the weekend that killed seven people and wounded 91 others.

Sgt. Brian Kelly, 55, had successful surgery at the Kabul International Airport Military Hospital to remove shrapnel in his leg after the bombing Saturday morning, said an RCMP news release Sunday. His family has been notified.

News reports on the day of the bombing had confirmed that a Canadian had been hurt and an Afghan employee of the Canadian Embassy had been seriously injured in the bombing, but had not identified them.

Kelly, who has been with the RCMP for 29 years, had been stationed in Kabul since June as part of a nine-month mission. He had just got out of his vehicle outside the main entrance of the NATO International Security Assistance Force Headquarters when the blast occurred, the release said.

Kelly is normally based at the RCMP headquarters in Ottawa, but has previously served overseas on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the former Yugoslavia.

A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for Saturday's attack, which came less than a week before the scheduled start of Afghanistan's elections for both president and provincial councils.

Thank you Sgt Kelly and all the best inyour future duties.

Please show your support for Canada's finest. Military. RCMP and Local Police Officers. Serving Canada in Dangerous places.

Robby once again you keep us informed. I too believe and always have believed that the Mounties are the worlds finest police service. At home they are not liked when they issue a ticket , but if you look closely at the reason behind the ticket, it is always in the interests of our safety and others. Well done our horsemen.
