A well earned Honour for RCASC Veteran Wayne Wannamaker

I first met Wayne Wannamaker in 1963 not sure where maybe Momma's, maybe Willies heck maybe we even met at work first, who knows. However I am pleased to share this with readers everywhere. Wayne was a trucker in the Corps. Then one day as we all do he retired and went to work for Transport Canada where he served until retirement. Wayne has long been a voice for Veterans with regard to Pension Clawback, veterans licence plates and Free parking for veterans. His many successes have been recognised at long last by the Department of Veterans affairs. He was awarded the Veterans Affairs Commendation for his work on behalf of veterans. Here is the photo of our Veteran and a sampling of letters from fellow vets and buddies. Well Done Wayne. On behalf of all Veterans we thankyou.

A PROUD Vet.

Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation

Wayne Wannamaker Whitehorse, Yukon Mr. Wannamaker is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran who served in The Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. In the late 1960s, Mr. Wannamaker assisted a group of First World War Veterans 50th anniversary pilgrimage to battlefields in Europe. Following his military service, in 1988, Mr. Wannamaker assisted in forming Watson Lake Cadet Corps, where he was the Commanding Officer and remained Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC) on the Supplementary Reserve List until his retirement in 2007. He was instrumental in influencing the Yukon Legislative Assembly to adopt special license plates for Veterans in the territory. Mr. Wannamaker then approached city hall and successfully lobbied to provide free parking in Whitehorse to any vehicles bearing the Veterans license plates. As part of the Year of the Veteran, Mr. Wannamaker convinced the Legislative Assembly to present a poppy quarter to all 189 Veterans in the Yukon at a commemorative ceremony. The coins were presented to the Veterans by their local member of the legislature. Mr. Wannamaker continues working toward the well-being of Veterans in the Yukon.
