Soldiers gathered on the Kandahar Airfield at sunset Friday as the body of the latest Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan was loaded aboard a military plane for the flight back to Canada.

Hundreds of Canadian and other NATO soldiers stood at attention as the body of Pte. Sbastien Courcy was carried in a flag-draped casket to a waiting military transport aircraft.

Courcy, 26, was killed a day earlier in an incident that occurred about 17 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city. He served with the Quebec City-based 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment.

Battle group leader Maj. Christian Bergeron said Courcy's death is a terrible loss for his comrades.

He was a very, very devoted soldier the type of guy who was always ready to go, Bergeron said ahead of the ceremony.

Padre Normand Cholette, who paid tribute to Courcy during the ramp ceremony, said the soldier was a trusted confidante.

If he wasn't sitting peacefully watching a movie and relaxing, he was undoubtedly at the gym, getting in shape, Cholette said.

Le prtre Normand Cholette, qui a rendu l'hommage Courcy pendant la crmonie de rampe, a dit que le soldat tait une confidente fidle.

S'il ne s'assoyait pas paisiblement en regardant un film et une dtente, il tait sans doute la gym, en arrivant dans la forme, a dit Cholette. Il est survcu par sa mre, Ginette et sa soeur, Julie. Peuvent ils trouver la paix dans leurs coeurs comme la tristesse de perdre Sebastien et leur chagrin profond les dplace pour s'occuper de leur perte. Le Canada leur envoie des prires et des condolances et tous ses aims et ses frres d'armes. Qui continuera la mission.

He is survived by his mother, Ginette, and his sister, Julie. May they find peace in their hearts as the sadness of losing Sebastien and their deep grief moves them to cope with their loss. Canada sends prayers and condolences to them and to all of his loved ones and his brothers in arms.Who will carry on the mission.

    I was always impressed with the turn out from other Nations at our ramp cerimonies in Kandahar. Soldiers from all countries would form up and pay their respects to our fallen, there seemed to be more and more troops at each cerimony.
