8 British soldiers killed in Afghanistan The British military's death toll in Afghanistan surpassed the number of lives claimed in Iraq on Friday, as eight soldiers died in separate attacks in the past 24 hours. The Ministry of Defence said five soldiers were killed by an explosive device while on patrol in Helmand province.Three other combat deaths were announced earlier in the day, making it one of the worst days for British forces since the Afghan war began seven years ago.The names of the soldiers have not been released, but next of kin have been notified, the ministry said.Friday's fresh casualties mean 15 British soldiers have been killed in the last 10 days as fighting in Helmand Province intensifies.Speaking at the G8 summit in L'Aquila, Italy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown defended the Afghan mission, his voice faltering as he expressed sympathy to the families of those who have been killed in recent days.
Our prayers and condolences to our brothers in arms, their loved ones and their familes. USA 4 Bundesphere 3 UK 15 may they rest in peace having paid a soldiers ultimate price. RIP
With all the sadness of recent days to Canada and their allies, I wish to share a humourous e mail that I received from my brother Joe and indeed 3 other friends. Even in sad times humour is important to a soldier, Please enjoy and perhaps smile a bit.
Originaly titled Old Geezers I have edited the word geezer to Veteran.
A WORLD WITHOUT OLD GEEZERS IS ONE WITHOUT REVERENCE!!!
'Veterans' are easy to spot: A t sporting events, during the playing of the National A nthem,Veterans remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them. Veterans remember the Depression, World War II, the bombing of Darwin , the Kokoda Trail, Spitfires, Normandy and Hitler. They remember the atomic bomb on Hiroshima , the Korean War,Vietnam War, The Cold War, the jet age and the moon landing, the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005.
If you bump into an Veteran on the footpath he will apologize. If you pass a Veteran on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady. Veterans trust strangers and are courtly to women. Veterans hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection. Veterans get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth on TV or in movies. Veterans have moral courage. They seldom brag unless it's about their grandchildren.
It's the Veterans who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country .
This country needs Veterans with their decent values. We need them now more than ever.
Thank God for Old Veterans!
Please show your support to our Gals and Guys serving you,Canada and the world.
