Sadness and Joy in Charlottetown.

A Tale of two soldiers........ One retired one Serving

It is indeed a Sad day when a veteran suffering from PTSD. Feels he has been backed into the proverbial corner. Steven Dixon a Veteran from Nova Scotia. Has reached that point in his life. He appeared in front of DVA Headquarters Monday Morning, to seek a meeting with the Deputy minister or some one else in DVA HQ to bring the plight of Veterans suffering from PTSD to the public via a Hunger Strike This man who is a proud Canadian did his service , did his Duty and unfortunately he suffers from PTSD. To feel the frustrations that this ex-soldier is feeling, both for his own, life problems. He is also thinking of all our other Veterans who are diagnosed with PTSD. Canada has been very slow in addressing this unfortunate, diagnosis of many Canadian service men and women. As mentioned in previous Blogs we have an entire new crop of young soldiers , returning from Afghanistan and suffering with PTSD. This illness show no visible signs, but it is extremely serious. Well done Steven Dixon on bringing this to the attention of Canada.

Steven also supports Widows on the Warpath his mother in law is a member of the widows who have been unrecognised with the loss of their husbands due to. the testing of Agent Orange in Gagetown. Thankyou Steven on behalf of your fellow Veterans.

As Joy came to Charlottetown airport. M/cpl Robbie Burhoe was returned safely to the arms of his wife , children and both his parents and parent's in law. M/Cpl Burhoe a medic who's home station is North Bay. Returned safely after a seven month tour of Afghanistan. Both Robbie and his wife Lisa are Born and Bred Islanders. Welcome home and Thank You for your Brave service on behalf of Canada.

So as another day passes in Canada one story of Sadness and one of Joy a Big thankyou to all our service men and women and to all our Veterans. Please show your support of our troops.

I am a Gagetown Agent Orange Victim. I was not in Gagetown in 66 & 67 and almost all veterans now tend to use the term Agent Orange as a catch-all to refer to all of the Rainbow herbicides employed in Gagetown and the causalities which resulted from that use. The News Media as you can see in the stories written about Steves hunger strike are still using the governments rhetoric.

The Toxic Chemical Defoliation progran carried out by Canada at CFB Gagetown started in 1956 and went on unabated until 1984, at which time the chemicals were reported to have had the Dioxin and HCB removed before use. 3.3 Million Pounds or litres were dumped on unsuspecting soldiers or where they were soon to be ordered in to train on.

I disagree with Ottawa's decission to deploy Canadian soldiers to Afghanistan and I finding it hard to support the method which has been forced upon this Veteran by Ottawa decisions but make no mistake about the fact that I support this Veteran as strongly as I do all of our soldiers who are in harms way.

God bless and good luck Steve.
