Afghanistan, Gaza; Canada is deeply involved

Gaza attacked ! ! ! We have all seen these headlines on the news. The UN again asking Israel to cease and desist. The Palestinians bemoaning the incursion. Despite the facts that Hamas has been shelling Israeli territory indiscriminantly for months on end. Whether it is one rocket or a myriad of rockets. An attack is an attack. I feel that the UN is certainly wrong again for demanding that Israel cease. The Israeli's have worked very hard since 1948 to create a bountiful country out of the desert. As any former Canadian peacekeeper knows when one flies into Israel the green and the orchards are visible for miles in what was once desert. Whereas flying into the Arab side of the area the dirt and sand is still brown. The Israelis have irrigated and made a place to live. The Arabs on the other hand seem to sit and wait for International Dollars to rescue them from poverty. This latest incursion has spread Globally including Afghanistan, with demonstraters burning the Israeli flag in Kandahar. Canadians have been involved in the Sinai penisula, Gaza, Egypt, Israel. Lebanon for the past 50 years in various ways. The only result being that Israel gives up hard gained land for the UN. No one seems to think of the Israelis who were being attacked by Mortars and Rockets. The Palestinian Governing body if it wants peace must remove the Hamas and Hezbolla from their countries. These cowards hide amidst housing, schools and mosques. They refuse to fight Israeli soldiers one on one. Although this is not the way to end the conflict. If the UN was to decree that Hamas, Hezbolla and indeed al quada lay down their arms, then the world of diplomacy would be able to make peace with far less bloodshed. This listing from the UN website shows the length of time Canada and the UN have been involved.

As a former vet of 23 years I had the pleasure of serving in the Gaza Strip as well as the Congo then Chams Tel Aviv and finally Cyprus. What you say is correct the Israelis are hard workers and they have developed a great agricultural economy out of the arid desert. I recall speaking to an Arab shopkeeper in Gaza one day. He told me he was actually better off with more dollars in his pocket with the Israelis running the show. Whereas with Arafat times were tough and money hard to come by. Thanks for the memories and please remember our troops.
