Roadside blast claims 3 N.B.-based soldiers in Afghanistan
This sad disheartening headline was on the news channel of my PC when I opened it this morning. Another tragedy for families, friends and the brothers in arms, of the young soldiers killed by the cowardly taliban. May they rest now in peace at the right hand of God. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the Invisible Army of friends, family and loved ones at home.
Cpl. Thomas James Hamilton, left, Pte. Justin Peter Jones, centre, and Pte. John Michael Roy Curwin, right, all members of Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, based at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick, were killed by an improvised explosive device Saturday, in southern Afghanistan. (DND)
Canadians will awake to the sad news of these three deaths and the further wounding of a fourth soldier. No name of the wounded soldier released as per standing orders. Nevertheless to him/her and the family and loved ones we send our prayers.
Cpl. Thomas James Hamilton, Pte. John Michael Roy Curwin and Pte. Justin Peter Jones, based at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick, were killed around 9 a.m. local time as they were responding to reports people were planting a suspicious object west of Kandahar city, Brig.-Gen. Denis Thompson told reporters in Kandahar Airfield.
Hamilton was on his third tour in Afghanistan, while Jones was originally from Newfoundland, Thompson said. Two of the men were parents Curwin the father of three children, Hamilton the father of a daughter, Annabella.
I would like to extend my personal condolences to the families and friends for these men and I look to all Canadians during this Christmas season to hold their memories dear, Thompson said.
3 Afghan Policemen were killed on Sunday by a bomb hidden in a wooden cart exploding Sunday in Kandahar City, killing three Afghan police officers and wounding 11 people.
A spokesman for the governor (Zalmai Ayubi) said the attack targeted a police vehicle, and that five police officers were among those wounded.
Violence has been rising steadily in Afghanistan. In the past two weeks, six Canadian soldiers and four British Marines have been killed in southern Afghanistan.
Our infanteers are in the face of peril everyday. On friday four of our British Allies were killed by a 13 year old suicide Bomber. NATO and ISAF and even the UN mandate cannot prepare our troops to the insidious warfare of IED's child suicide bombers and the mix of other treacherous means of warfare. Our soldiers are bound not only by a military code of conduct in operational areas but their own code of morale conduct as Canadians. As anyone who watched the CTV interview about Captain Trevor Greene, the simple act of removing his helmet (Hat) to conduct talks, cost him his horrendous injuries due to being a polite professional Canadian that we are all proud of.
Please remember our troops in your prayers and thoughts.
