Van doos officer killed in Mali while on peacekeeping mission.

Canadian Peacekeeper killed in non combat related incident.

Maj. Luc Racine was killed in a non-combat related incident on Sept. 9, according to a Canadian Forces statement issued Friday.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Major Luc Racine, who died in Bamako, Mali, Defence Minister Peter MacKay said in a statement. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Racine, a member of the Royal 22e Rgiment Valcartier, Quebec, was a senior staff member at the Bamako Peacekeeping School, a military training centre designed to support peace operations and capacity building in Western Africa. He also worked with the Canadian Embassy.

My prayers and condolences go out to the family, friends and the VanDoos brothers in arms.

This Major was serving Canada in a peacekeepers role, sadly we still have soldiers who pay the ultimate price on peacekeeping as well as other missions like Afghanistan.

With this sad news and in the midst of an election campaign it give voters an opportunity to assess the party leaders in their stance on the military and in particular the operation in Afghanistan. taliban Jack says if elected he will remove, troops from Afghanistan the day after he is elected? Where has this leader been the past few years even ordinary Canadians realise you cannot pull out 2500 plus troops overnight without a slew of casualties. Does he think the cowardly terror based insurgents will give NATO a free passage to remove troops. As for Dion the liberals being in charge of the military is a frightening thought.

In my humble opinion Prime Minister Stepehen Harper is the only leader who shows any savvy with regard to our troops and the Afghan mission. Yes he would like to bring home the bulk of our troops by 2011, but he is knowledgable and in touch with military leaders, he knows that all the troops will not be out of Afghanistan, their must be a rear party for transition and naturally the PRT's will still be in place. On this issue Afghanistan Prime Minister Stephen Harper is our only chance to lead Canada and their military, in the right direction.

So as I have asked a few times over the past two years please say a prayer in your Church, Chapel, Synagogue,Temple or Mosque. Your home in your car or anywhere anytime let you mind go to thoughts of all our soldiers, sailors and airmen in dangerous parts of the Globe.

Please hang a Yellow ribbon to show your support.

    Rob:
I was glad to read your blog today but am also sorry at the passing of Maj Racine and our prayers will go out to his family.
I would also agree with your statment of removing the troops from Afg. and as Jack Laton has said give it to the UN was not this a UN mission that Maj. Racine was on and just because the UN is running the show does not make one Bulett proof.
