Children and their world Afghani & Canadian What a difference

What a difference between Canadian Childhood and Afghani Childhood. On my journey so far across Canada I have had the privilege and indeed the honour of speaking with Canadian Military families on board the Via Rail across this great nation. One currently serving infantryman from the RCR in London, had his two teenage kids on a trip to Edmonton. He had booked them into a hotel in The West Edmonton Mall for a week. As Canadians we can do things like this for our children. Is this spoiling? I think not,it is showing them that a loving Dad has different ideas for holidays and learning. He told me that his tours of duty in Bosnia Kosovo and other areas, have shown him the true values of a family. The Afghani children do not read of Peter Pan, Tom Saywer nor indeed our own Anne of Green Gables. These children are amongst the poorest on earth, and that is a good part of the reason Canada is currently in Afghanistan. To allow these kids the freedom to attends school with out fear. To show them a way of life that they may attain. Our troops both Combatant and non combatant are in the forefront in this effort to raise the standard of freedom and education . The Canadian kids that I spoke to on the train are extremely proud of their Father's and have a genuine understanding of the mission. They told me that YES they were always worried when Dad went away, but this made the times he was at home all the more special. On this note I close the Blog for now but I promise to write the full scoop on the entire Via Rail adventure upon my return to Peaceful PEI.Think of the poor children of this world as you have lunch or dinner etc. with your own Family and Children. Please show your support to the troops and their families and loved ones. Nil Sine Labore Robby

I've been reading a lot of people say a lot of things in the blogs. So many times they are so busy insulting each other that they aren't looking at the details. Children are the details! While it is important that children feel loved and safe, it is also important that they understand that they are LUCKY to have food, clean water and homes, let alone the trips and toys and technology we often take for granted. Robbie you point out an important factor and that is children should be informed. This helps them to become citizens of the world who do not focus solely on their own wants. This helps create a better situation for everyone.
Having said all that it is sad that your story about children is the one people have avoided commenting on.
