I am in Toronto on the first leg of my Journey to BC and return. The first story I read in the Toronto Sun this am was that some of our guys particulary those serving on the Canadian run reconstruction teams had to delay their planned Canada day festivities due to increased threat levels. Remember these are the Guys and Gals who work on a myriad opf projects from school reconstruction to medical services for the local populace, to training and upgrading Afghani Police and security services.
Our top General in Kandahar Brigadier General Dennis Thompson was on a joint Canuck/Brit mission to knock out taliban safe houses. He missed the Canada day celebrations at the airfield. Do I say to all Canadians who enjoyed a great Canada Day think of your troops who gave their Day up in the defense of Freedom.
The second Item close to my heart concerns an Angus Reid poll which states that %64 of Canadians feel that American DESSERTERS< WAR RESISTERS >Traitors to their own country should be allowed REFUGE in Canada. Well I am certainly not part of that %64. These men joined the Military Voluntarily, took the oath to serve and protect their country. Now they are trying to weasel out on a sworn oath and contaminate Canada with their traitorous actions. They should be arrested and sent back, escorted by Canadian Military police as allies would normally act with a foreign desserter. With Canada Day just passed I do feel that our great country is a melting pot and I have no problem welcoming immigrants or indeed Bona Fide refugees. This person Lee Zaslofsky himself a Draft Dodger of the vietnam war and current co-ordinator for the War Resister Support Group gained his Canadian Citizenship in 1975 despite being a defector. He should then realise as an accepted Canadian he should leave his US Politics at home. go back and stand alongside the desserters . Not here in Canada where an oath taken is respected and honoured.
CBC Update :Concerning Mr M Glass who has been told he is to be deported.News has now revealed that he received an Honourable Discharge two years ago. The US Military is not searching for him. He has free entry into his home country unimpeded...The Question now is Whats his Game??????
Thats my comment for the moment.
Please remember our troops and their families wherever they may serve.
