Thankyou to The few and the concerned. Red Rally Charlottetown

CBC Reporter Quote The crowd is Miniscule

I have thought long and hard to decide how to present this article.

I would like to begin with a grateful THANKYOU to the 60 or so citizens of PEI that came to the Red Rally last evening in Charlottetown. A thankyou as well to the troops of the reserve units of PEI as well as the RCMP contigent, the Municipal police contingent , the Firefighters and the Legionaires that joined in the March. The CBC reporter hit the nail on the head with the term MINISCULE. That is the correct description of the CROWD that showed up to cheer on the Military. A few scattered families with the kids. To them as well THANKYOU. I would also like to thank the couple from Australia who took the time during their holiday to attend.

The remaining citizenry of PEI should be ashamed of themselves. The extremely poor turnout is a sign of this Island not showing Support for Canada's troops. Where were ANY of our elected Officials??

More people by far showed up for the Potato Protest.

The Hard work of Charlene McInnis and her team of Volunteers, produced a wonderful show of support. The speeches, the videos, the Military Band and indeed the Lone Trumpeter. He played the Last Post and the call to Reveille and you could have heard a pin Drop during the minutes silence for our fallen.

Thankyou Charlene for all your hard work, I as a proud Canadian and Veteran, appreciate your dedication to the support of our troops and The Silent Warriors.

The 83 Military personnell who paid the ultimate price and their families appreciate all the members of the various Military Families Services Centre.

When the marching troops arrived this certainly increased the numbers Thankyou Guys and gals.

As I close this rant I would like the people of PEI to know that despite your abysmal showing. Your troops will still be out there protecting YOUR FREEDOM. So that you may sleep soundly.

I also great enjoyed the ceremony last night. I had an opportunity to talk with WO Frank Mellishs Aunt. She relayed in hear speech the value of support that her family received during the 172km ride his remains had to take once arriving back in Canada before being released to them.
Once I arrived home I went on facebook. I was talking with my deployed brother in law who I might add, went to school here on the Island and graduated for Three Oaks Senior High School. He told me a fact that did not know, which was he went to school in Summerside with Frank.
There are so many people that figure if they support the work of the Soldiers and their Families it is a blank endorsement of the political views of the government(s). To me it is not. Supporting the troops is to recognize the incredible efforts and acts that the men and women serving are putting forth under the mandate of the Canadian Government. The patience and understanding of the Families and friends that are left behind. Do the People of the Island realize that when military people are injured or killed ALL communication is ceased from Afghanistan until the next of kin are notified. That has taken 24-36 hours in some cases. The Families hear that there has been a death and then they wait to see if they are going to be the ones hearing the boots on the door step or get a phone call.
Can you imagine how your Family would be if they had a family member that was out driving around in a certain type of car? They try to call the cell phone but to no answer. There are news reports that type of vehicle has been in a grievous accident. So you can not reach your loved one and you either wait for them to contact you or the police to show up. Families that have members deployed can go through this scenario numerous times a month.
Personal experience has taught me when the military persons (when I was) are deployed. They are not thinking about political agendas the thought is more about the aid they can bring or the danger that is around them. I am not saying they are immune to it all. I am saying they at those points are not afforded the luxury of time to debate them as we have back here.
I also heard last night in the crowd how recent protests have generated a great deal more public support one of them being the farming communities. I just do not think that some of the people who are struggling to get fair market value for their crops and livestock understand that because of the militaries efforts on the worlds stage it directly affects the price for trade and provides trading partners. The stability that Canadas military is trying to provide has an effect on gas prices. The more unstable the globe is the higher that price will rise.
I am wondering in that vain, that how can I expect support for my cause if I do not support others involved in a common goal?
I hope to see more of you at the next Rally.
