Major General Marc Lessard has taken over as operational commander in Kandahar province. CDS General Hillier has stated that Combat is inevitable in Kandahar.
So Mr Layton and Mr Dion please open your ears and listen to the top soldiers in the Canadian Military. Both of these Generals have not risen to the top of the Military Hierachy by being foolish. Our troops are heavily committed in a war torn country. As such they depend on professional leadership from their military commanders whether a section Cpl on the ground or the CDS at the helm. Our troops listen and carry out orders and duties diligently and professionally. You Mr Layton in particular say that you represent Canadians and their wishes. I think not Open your eyes and see what is happening ! !
Both of these Generals are trying to lead Canadas military with a severe lack of equipment. Can you imagine Mr Layton as a Unionist telling the GM factory assembly line that they must use the line equipment from the sixties. You would have a massive strike. So I implore you and Mr Dion get of your high horses and start to fully support our men and women who were sent to NATO's aid by the former Liberal Government.
A quote from Maj.Gen.Lessard who, for the next nine months, will be in charge of a force that includes about 12,000 troops from 12 countries.
Lessard said the time had come to fight back harder against the insurgents in the southern parts of Afghanistan.
Canada's Chief of Defence staff stated in his recent interview.
No way to avoid combat in Kandahar: Hillier Canadian soldiers cannot avoid combat if they are to remain in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar beyond February 2009, Canada's chief of defence staff said Friday.
The Opposition Liberals have called for an end to Canadian combat operations by that date, but Gen. Rick Hillier said it was impossible for the military to perform strictly humanitarian and development missions in the volatile area.
If you're in Kandahar, you're going to be in combat operations, Hillier told reporters after an address in Ottawa. If you're there, you're going to be in the middle of a firefight some way or another.
So Honourable leaders of Her Majesties opposition parties get with it.
