Speaking with The MND The Honourable Peter MacKay

Good day, On 11 Nov 07 I had the privilege of speaking with Minister Peter MacKay. He told me that on this day a former PPCLI Colonel Pat Stogran will be the First Ombudsman for Canadian veterans. I am positive that by the Monday he had a file as thick as a Toronto Phone book. The DVA has been rather slow over the years in assisting Veterans and their worries. I wish Col.Stogran all the best in his new post.

His years of service will stand him in good stead.

The Minister then spoke briefly on the Agent Orange situation and any members who served in Gagetown during the early 60's. The web site containing all the information has been set up www.vac-acc.gc.ca

My personal question to the MND was in the realm of Food services in Kandahar. I told him that most of the returning soldiers I have spoken too , were concerned about the poor quality of food served in base camps... He told me that the Caterer had been replaced recently and that the provision of fresh fruits etc are on the daily menu. He eaten his meals in various messes, while he was in Kandahar and found it most acceptable.

As a former Army Cook I find this good news for the troops as Food is Morale.

All in all I had a great chat with the Minister and I thank him for his valuable time.

Please show your support tomorrow by wearing Red Thankyou.
