Our thanks go to Charlene McInnis and her band of Volunteers who organised, set up and worked the welcome home event for the troops. There were dignitaries present as well as the Primary Dignitaries of the day The Returnees and their families (the members of the Invisible Army). Good Show, Well Done. A fine time was had by all. My personal thanks to the soldiers who came to speak to me and expressed thanks for the Blog which they accessed in Afghanistan as a wee bit of home. Also the dog which I mentioned earlier was identified to me as Sam the Camp Dog ..Photo attached .
Thankyou for the donations of local businesses, Savee Quik Mart of Cornwall, Sobeys, Wendy's to mention a few. The Car and Motorcyle displayed with military paint jobs thankyou.
On Saturday, as well in Halifax the largest number of recruits (in a decade) were sworn in, at a ceremony. 102 took the oath in the presence of our MND Peter McKay. These men and women then left the ceremony to begin their military training. Well done to those young men and women who volunteer to be part of the military family.
As an old guy I can attest to the fact that friends and comrades made in the military remain friends forever. I enlisted 47 years ago as a Soldier Apprentice and to this day. I am in touch with comrades throughout the globe from Newfoundland to New Zealand. The military comradeship is unshakeable and this is part of what makes Canada such a Great Country to be from.
As we return to another work week, please take a moment to remember our fallen and our serving members where ever they may be serving Canada.
