A great photo from Afghanistan showing again that Canadians love their animals. Two soldiers from the Island show love and caring for this lovely animal.
Throughout history soldiers have taken dogs, birds, horses, donkeys as well as a myriad of various wildlife. In any area of conflict the animal kingdom also suffers from neglect and basic care. One donkey in Egypt's 56 Tpt Coy RCASC named Zubrick was well cared for by the men of the corps. In the early 60's in Soest the mascot of 1 Tpt Coy RCASC was Lucky a wonderful Jack Russell who used to travel on the gas tank of the Triumph motorcycles of the despatch rider. Sailors for centuries had parrots and cats as ship mascots. I am sure that the latest conflict has its collection of animal stories.
I would like to hear from any one who has or is serving in the military and their animal stories. A brief respite from the horrors of war.
