Military Blog Site - with Robby McRobb Blog

End of week, bits and pieces.

What a week!! One young soldier laid to rest in Stellarton, Cpl Kevin Megeney. Our sympathies to his family and friends.

In PEI a father of yet another young soldier, M/Cpl Robbie Fraser. His dad is requesting the military to re-consider the charges laid against him after a fatal discharge of his weapon in Afghanistan, fatally wounded a fellow soldier. It has taken the SIU of the Military Police a long time to lay charges and the widow of the deceased also wants charges to be dropped. .

Many sad things happen in areas of conflict, unfortunately only the trrops in the area know exactly what happened in these incidents.

Also this week the CBC interviewed an American Army Deserter who is seeking Refugee status in Canada. This should not be condoned as he is a serving member of an allied military unit. Apparently there are upwards of five thousand deserters in Canada, with 30 applications for refugee status. I feel that the Canadian Military Police or RCMP should arrest these servicemen and send them back to the US Military, they have not been drafted they are volunteers therefore they chose the US Military as a career. Unlike the draftees of the Vietnam era who had no choice but to report for duty, now they have the same choice as Canada,UK, to join or not to join.

Thats it for this weekend I look forward to your comments on any subject that you feel strongly about.

Hi Robby, Hope you made use of the email address I gave you for our Mutual friend. I watched The Ground Truth Last night on the Passionate Eye. For those that missed the show it was US Vets, mostly from Iraq, who were telling some of the PTSD stories and somewhat how bad their VA is treating them. One part was about how they were getting assessed with a personality defect that pre-exsisted to make them suseptable to PTSD so therefore their DVA was not responsible. Canada has fallen suit wrt this matter. They blame childhood abuse, addiction and alike to say well you would have gotten it anyway so we don't have to pay. Sad isn't. They go so far to beat back and delay any type of benefits the men and women. they go in an instance as required but when it is time to give them their due, it is fight and frustration till the memeber capitulates. My heart goes out to Fraser and his parents. I have never really been impressed by the NIS/SIU. I hope for Fraser's sake they do their regular best. It will be aquitted. It is known amongst the ground troops that it doesn't take much of a butt stoke to make those guns, made by Matell, to fire. Maybe the widow should sue the federal government for having such an unreliable weapon! Keep up the good work.
