200 Million reasons to stay

Our PM has now dedicated $200 million to the rebuilding of Afghanistan. These funds will be spread over a ten year period and should help the Afghan people immensly. The reconstruction, medical aid, education, and the training of the Afghan Military and Afghan police to name but a few. This funding will hopefully be well spent. Corruption in many of these cultures dissapates funds to the wrong areas. Someone must take control of issuing and monitoring the dollars.

Our troops have had many success stories over the years with peacekeeping and rebuilding areas that had been devastated by wars. Cyprus, Egypt, Bosnia, Kosovo spring to mind. Canada went to Cyprus in the early 60's. The Canadian Guards for a six month tour of duty. This in fact went on for 23 years before Canada left a better Cyprus. Hopefully Afghanistan will not take this long, with the spring offensive coming up we pray that the Taliban will be soundly defeated and Afghans can get on with peaceful lives.

It is nice to note that the number of Volunteers at recruiting drives has not diminished but in fact risen. This is a good sign for Canada that so many people feel we are on the right path.

Robby, it's obvious that you believe the tripe you write however you haven't a clue to what is really going on in the Middle East nor do you have any comprehension of the stone age cultures that the West are dealing with. - and I doubt that you nor many of your readers have ever been to the Middle East nor have any inkling of the culture/religion/politics of the region. Yes, we could be there in Afganistan for 10 years but mark my words, you will never change the mindset because it is based on religion. Politics and religion in Muslem cultures are one and the same.
The only reason that we are really there is that the US demanded it. The same as they demanded it from Australia and not until some devious country orchestrated the Bali bombings did they change their minds. The so-called War on Terrorism is unwinable simply because it can never be defined and therefore can be carried on for generations. Uneducated, flag-waving nuts that haven't the slightest knowledge of the real issues motivate our Canadian youth to needless deaths. Meanwile we have a standoff in Ontario with the Indians that has lasted for a year and the government is impotent to deal with it and they think that they can change Afganistan..?
