Cpl (Ret'd) Jean-François Belzil receives the Star of Military Valour from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston.

"I received two commendations for my past tours for saving [an] American soldier and [a] Canadian. I have been injured twice on my first tour on IED strike," said Cpl (Ret'd) Belzil in a response to a photo of him on the Canadian Army Facebook page.

"My point is that [it] wasn't for the medal or any decoration, but it's a honour for me to receive them.

"I did what I did, first of all, for my country, all my guys (Canadian soldiers), all the ISAF soldiers and all of the Afghan National Army soldiers who really fight for their freedom."
