Québec, Quebec - Corporal (Ret'd) Jean-François Belzil, S.M.V. received the Star of Military Valour from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada on September 19 at the Citadelle of Québec.

The Star of Military Valour (S.M.V.) recognizes distinguished and valiant service in the presence of the enemy.

 Cpl (Ret'd) Jean-François Belzil receives the Star of Military Valour from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston.

"I received two commendations for my past tours for saving [an] American soldier and [a] Canadian. I have been injured twice on my first tour on IED strike," said Cpl (Ret'd) Belzil in a response to a photo of him on the Canadian Army Facebook page. 

"My point is that [it] wasn't for the medal or any decoration, but it's a honour for me to receive them.

"I did what I did, first of all, for my country, all my guys (Canadian soldiers), all the ISAF soldiers and all of the Afghan National Army soldiers who really fight for their freedom."

Star of Military Valour Cpl Belzil was one of the 27 Canadians receiving honours for their excellence, valour, bravery and exceptional dedication service at the Citadelle of Quéebec.
