Seventy Six years ago on Feb second 1936. Harold Swain was born in Saskatchewan. This was during the reign of King Edward the eighth.
Little did Harold Swain know that 16 years later in the first year, of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the second. He would be sworn in as Canada’s first Apprentice Soldier RCASC.
Hal as he is better known completed 32 years service in the RCASC/ and Logistics.
I attaché a PDF of Hal’s career for your reading pleasure. It is an excerpt from the book “Soldier Apprentice Memories 1953-1967 and beyond”
I wish Hal a wonderful Birthday with Good Health Good Company and some fascinating stories and memories of his life.
Hal was “K” Platoon officer in 1963 in Fort Chambly Soest. A well respected and well liked officer and soldier. It has been my pleasure to know him since 1963.
Happy Birthday to Canada’s first and foremost Soldier Apprentice.
Hal Swain (Colonel Retired) RCASC Pilot. Please give a thought and raise a glass to this proud Canadian Veteran.
The UN and the USA are holding urgent meetings about both the Iranian and Syrian conflicts. This in itself is troubling.
The French Government are thinking of ceasing their training operations in Afghanistan.
Will Canada be left to fill this gap? Who knows?
Please give a thought to our Troops whether serving on land , sea or in the air. Give them the respect they deserve.
