Travel broadens the mind ? ? ?

Canadian Passport a Prized Possession

I have always been a believer in world travel. I have always thought that people who have travelled extensively for work or a holiday, are far better equipped to meet people of other cultures. Canada's military has been sending troops, (Often 1 or 2 Personnel) to many many parts of the world. Either as observers, military Liaison or advisers. In countries like Afghanistan we have a 1000 trainers on site.

Sadly many western Governments are adding areas of the world on daily basis. These are countries where travel is not recommended for various reasons , from terrorism, kidnapping, and drug gangs. This is the latest list from Google and the BBC

Current Travel Warnings

Travel Warnings are issued when long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous or unstable lead  Governments to recommend that their citizens avoid or consider the risk of travel to that country. A Travel Warning is also issued when a Government's ability to assist their citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of a drawdown of its staff. The countries listed below meet those criteria.

Mexico 04/22/2011 The sad state of today's world must severly curtail Gap Year travle for students. When my 2 children reached 18 they were each offered a year of Travel on Dad. I believed that when they travelled and experienced the world they would be better Canadians. Well it worked I am extremly proud of them. I feel that the military and Foreign Service office will soon be the only people travelling. Naturally the NGO's and Charitable groups will try and assist around the Globe. Please remember our Troops and their families Nil Sine Labore Robby

I was shocked at the number of places where travel is not recommended. I'm an avid football (Soccer) fan and several players from the British Premiership League are returning home this week to play for their respective countries in the Africa Cup of Nations. Its a pity we can't resolve our differences on the playing fields of the world.
