Our Fallen Comrade Returns Home

LFCA MA 11-12 - October 31, 2011

OTTAWA - Our fallen comrade, Master Corporal Byron Garth Greff from the Third Battalion of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton, Alberta, returns home to Canada Tuesday

Where: 8 Wing, Canadian Forces Base Trenton, Ontario.

When: Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 2 p.m.

What: At the request of the families, media will be permitted on the tarmac.

Present to pay their respects will be His Excellency the Governor General of Canada, The Right Honourable David Johnston; Minister of National Defence, The Honourable Peter MacKay; Chief of the Defence Staff, General Walt Natynczyk and other dignitaries.

MCpl Greff was killed by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device while transiting through Kabul as a passenger on an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) vehicle at approximately 11:30 a.m. (Kandahar time) on October 29, 2011.

As CFB Trenton prepares for yet another Ramp Ceremony and the return of a Flag Draped Casket of M/Cpl B. Greff of the 3 PPCLI. The Canadians will once again line the Highway of heroes on the day of his return. May his family and loved ones honour him with prayers and love, His children will grow up never knowing their father and that indeed is SAD. Rest In Peace young Soldier your Duty Done.

Our CDS was in attendance at the major defence symposium in Qatar.

I wonder what complaint the opposition will have if he flew in a military aircraft to this event and also what they will have to say about the return of Canada's 158th casualty from Afghanistan. Will they still complain of costs to operate military aircraft.

Our opposition sitting in the great Houses of Parliament fail to understand our Military role in the world nor do they understand the military family. They could all use a lesson in military life, history and comradeship.

A great part of the military family is re connections. Just today I was reconnected with a former flight steward from my days as a member of 437(T) Sqn at CFB trenton. Donnie Robichaud has prepared a slide show on the CFB Summerside Air Show 2011. So to those of you who may have missed the excitement of the live show. Check out Donnies Slideshow.

Please say a prayer or a few words for our soldiers sailors and airmen, and especially for the families of Sgt Gilbert SAR Tech and M/Cpl Greff 3 PPCLI.
