Two fine Canadian military men moving onwards and upwards. Canada salutes you.

Salutes and thankyou as well to Carleton Place Ontario for the service thanking our troops for their service in Afghanistan, Great folks who support our troops.

Carleton Place continued a tradition that dates back to the First World War on Sunday, holding a parade through town to honour veterans who served in Afghanistan.

The recently-closed mission took a toll across eastern Ontario, and the town lined the sidewalk to say its thanks.

"My son did two tours in Afghanistan from here," said Carol MacLean. "I saw the kids, so it's just, it's just important. . . they're just kids."

"It's a tradition that started in the First World War, followed through the Second, and Korean," said Carleton Place's deputy mayor Ed Sonnenburg. "The town as a whole, wanted to show, in whatever way they could, their appreciation."

For those veterans, they said the support was much appreciated.

"I'm grateful for everyone's support, family support," said Pte. Chris McCaul from CFB Petawawa. "I think it's good they put this day together for us."

The day also involved the laying of wreaths for the 157 troops who died in Afghanistan.

There are still Canadian military personnel in the country, as around 950 will stay in Kabul in a training capacity until 2014.

Please Show Support for our Troops and their families members of Canada's Invisible Army
