I have said it before and dare I say it again. NATO and the UN Resolution has us involved in the bombing of Libys. The patrolling of the Med for banned goods and searches for arms and ammunition.
The security council on Wed Aug 3rd.Made this formal announcment:
The United Nations Security Council condemned Syrian authorities on Wednesday for attacking civilians and committing widespread human rights violations.
After more than three months of deadlock over the escalating violence in Syria, the council adopted a presidential statement criticizing the crackdown by Syrian President Bashar Assad's military forces
The presidential statement expresses "grave concern at the deteriorating situation in Syria, and expresses profound regret at the death of many hundreds of people."
It also expresses regret at "the lack of progress" by Syrian authorities in implementing reforms and calls on the government to keep its promises.
Presidential statements are considered less potent than resolutions and require approval from all 15 council members. Lebanon, a neighbour and close ally of Syria, didn't block adoption of the statement, but it invoked a procedure last used 35 years ago and dissociated itself from the text.
Although this is not quite a formal cease and desist order it is the beginning of yet another area of conflict where Canada will be press-ganged into helping with troops. This is how boththe Libyan and Afghanistan missions began.
We as a country cannot afford a third front. Afghanistan and Libya being the first two.
Canada must stand firm and not get dragged into another fight amongst arabs. Canada must allow our military to stand fast on the Syrian issue, and to return to the proud days of the Blue Helmeted Canadian professionals.
The CBC has created an interactive map of Syria well worth the link:
