Islanders (and the World) watch Prince William

Waterbirding "Prince"

PEI is awash  with Royal watchers and the Global Media.

During  his brief visit to PEI The Prince observed and participated in a quintessentially Canadian manoeuvre , landing on the water. Or Waterbirding as the terminology goes.

Canadian Search and Rescue and Coast Guard crews have  perfected this manouever of physically sailing a SeaKin on the water. Currently only  Canadian Search and Rescue crews use this unique form of rescue. Prince William observed and the participated in his first ever Waterbirding exercise. He plans on returning to his Sqn in Wales and have this procedure taught in the UK. Another FIRST for Canada.

Meanwhile while Canadians are watching the Dragon Boat races with Prince William in PEI Many Canadian soldiers are still fighting Flood waters in Manitoba.

An additional 175 Canadian Forces troops will be deployed in a desperate bid to protect the southwestern Manitoba town of Souris from flooding, officials said Sunday,About 200 Canadian Forces personnel were deployed Saturday to help the town build up its defences for the crest of the Souris River, which is expected Tuesday at the earliest. Some dikes may have to be raised to a height of nearly four metres, according to officials.

Canucks teaching a Prince, Canucks fighting floods, Canucks, training Afghans and Canucks chasing down Pirates and bombing Libya. What a diverse military we have. As a proud Canadian and Veteran I salute all of our Military family.

In sadness another Soldier Apprentice of the RCASC has  passed away.

Guy Gaudreault Has joined our advance party. Last night at 0100hrs on July 2nd2011 in the palliative wing of Laval Hospital in Quebec City(Formally Ste Foy) Guy quietly passed away with his loving wife Carole by his side. Guy was a member of 5 platoon ATC, May he Rest in Peace.

I had thought that "waterbirding" was a technique that had been developed by Canadian Forces Sea King crews because the Sea King spends so much time in the hover while carrying out ASW operations. Now you tell us that it's something that it's been developed by SAR and The Coast Guard neither of which operate Sea Kings. Amazing!
