A Sad weekend for our Troops and Apprentice Veterans

M/Cpl Roy

A sad weekend for the Military, and at home.  Not only the death of M/Cpl Roy in Afghanistan but two other  Soldier Apprentices, sadly have passed. As the Apprentices and myself were RCASC the original Corps responsible for the movement of Men , Machines, Supplies virtually anything that needed to be moved was moved by the RCASC. This morphed into the Logistics branch many years ago when military Integration took place. M/Cpl Roy is the latest generation of  “ Movers “.

So as a former Logistician, my prayers go out to the family, friends and loved ones of M/Cpl Roy.

Master Cpl. Francis Roy was a logistician responsible for transport of troops and equipment on his second deployment to Afghanistan.

This means a further repatriation ceremony in  CFB Trenton, how many more times will  Canadians pay their respects along the “Highway of Heroes” Despite the draw down of Combat troops from Afghanistan, we are still leaving just shy of a 1000 Canadians  Military, Police, Corrections and assorted NGO and aid staff behind as trainers and mentors.

I wish that they remain safer  in the training role. Sadly I know that insurgents target anyone in Afghanistan be they Locals or foreigners.

As a former RCASC Apprentice my prayers go out to the families, friends and loved ones of Alvin McKinley  10 Pl   RCASC(A) 1956-1958  and Gord Brown  23 Pl   RCASC (A)  1960-1962

This past weekend Fern Bealieu was also laid to rest:  This e mail from a fellow Apprentice.

My wife and I have just returned from the funeral service for Fernand Beaulieu (11 platoon ATC). I was enchanted by the send off he was given. There were over 200 people there!.Aside from the Legion from St.Jean sur Richelieu,QC. I visited with fellow RCASC and ATC members, Guy Tringle,Pierre Pettigrew,Jean-Huges Gagnon,Jacques Côté,Denis Lavoie and Ken Lavergne.I must mention that I also brought with me cards from Guy & Carole Gaudreault,Jacques and Claudette Parent and my wife Thérèse and myself. I also was requested by the following to offer my condolences.Bill and Barbara Beagan,Léo-Paul Laverdière,Bill Marsh,Bob Janise and I am sure others. All of you who sent condolences on this forum I printed and gave to his wife Lise. Let me say in passing that she was touched by your compassion and thanks you. I know that Fern also would have felt great comfort from your devotion. Thanks to you all for caring.

As for our troops serving on the Libyan mission, I certainly pray that they return far sooner than the decade Troops served in the hostile areas of Afghanistan.

Please remember your Troops and their families. Say a prayer in your Church, Mosque, Temple, Synagogue or wherever you may be,  for the families and loved ones of these recent deaths.
