"D" Day Ceremonies Chilliwack BC

Apprentices Remembered

"D" Day Ceremony Chilliwack BC

Sitting in Chilliwack BC, the former home base of Canada’s Royal Canadian Engineers. I visited a military museum on the old base.  In speaking with a few of the Volunteers they all said basically the same thing that they have absolutely no funding  neither provincially nor federally.

This is sad as they are striving to maintain a large piece of Canadian History. As with D Day it is very important that young Canadians feel the connections that Canada has had in many wars around the world.

So many young men payed the ultimate price and never returned to life in Canada. See Link:

So today Sunday I will attend the D Day memorial parade here in Chilliwack with my old buddy and host for a few days George Girling 16 Pl RCASC (A).

We will take a moment to reflect on the Canadians that were lost that fateful day in Normandy.

Sadly we will also remember and honour two of our fellow apprentices who passed away this past week.

Fern Beaulieu  11 Pl and Ken O’Brien  18 Pl  both Apprentice Soldiers of Canada. May they Rest in Peace.

So as we remember our soldiers of “D” Day with a march to the Cenotaph, we also say a prayer of remembrance for all our military, no matter the conflict.

I am looking forward in anticipation to the debate in Parliament with regard to the units serving in Libya. Now that taliban jack has a voice that may actually swing a vote. It will be interesting to see which side of this issue that the NDP take.

Please Remember our Troops and their families as you go about enjoying  this summer. Also a big THANKYOU to all the troops involved in Fire and Flood relief across our great country.
