On the road for the past week I have been remiss. A repatriation ceremony for Canada’s 156 th death in Afghanistan. Bpmbadier Karl Manning may his parents and loved ones find peace with his return.
The PM and MND Peter MacKay’s visit to Kandahar all in support and to thank our Combat heroes and heroines.
As I travelled west from PEI I saw the flooding at St Jean sur Richelieu, The Vandoos are helping as well as other troops from Ontario and Quebec bases.
When I hit Brandon Manitoba and saw the sandbags piled higher than my camper, I was in awe. How many sandbags have been used by Volunteers and by the PPCLI, RCHA and others to try and stem the flooding. I am willing to bet there are millions across both Quebec and Manitoba being used.
In the area approaching Regina the fields looked like paddy fields on Vietnam or Thailand, until one realises that the grass tops one sees are almost 3 foot tall.
Fire in N Saskatchewan:
Military transport planes and helicopters have been dispatched to northern Saskatchewan to help evacuate the remote communities of Wollaston Lake and Hatchet Lake First Nation, which are under threat from a massive forest fire.
Two Hercules aircraft and three Griffon helicopters arrived Wednesday evening around 9:45 p.m. CST, according to provincial officials. Another Hercules aircraft was en route and more aircraft were to be sent to the communities Thursday morning.
So as Canadians fight, Flooding, Forest Fires, the taliban and the Ghadaffi gangs. My hearts swells with pride at the fit young men and women of our military, filling, humping and stacking sand bags around the clock. No ied’s for sure but there are still dangers present.
As for our troops far away from home. keep the faith. stay positive. and return home, safely to your loved ones.
For other Canadians please show your support, wear Red on Friday, Tie a Yellow Ribbon or just say thanks to any serviceperson you meet along the way.
Yours from Medicine Hat AB.
