An eye opener for our new Government ! ! !

Afghan Soldier ....Friend or Foe ? ? ?

Widows of Veterans Latter

Sadly their has been another violent taking of NATO lives. Once again TRAINERS are the target of Opportunity. Whom do we believe the Afghan Defence Ministry said that the pilot who opened fire was a 20 year Afghani Airforce Veteran. Yet the taliban say he was one of theirs. This shooting once again show what danger our trainers will be placed in. One cannot tell who the enemy is, and trainers are dying in non combat roles.

The CBC reported:

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the shooting and offered his condolences to the relatives of the victims. He said those killed were trainers and advisers for the Afghan air force. The president ordered his defense and security officials to investigate the recent incidents to determine why they occurred.

It was the seventh time so far this year that members of the Afghan security forces, or insurgents impersonating them, have killed coalition soldiers or members of the Afghan security forces.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the gunman, who was killed during the shooting, was impersonating an army officer and that others at the facility helped him gain access.

Canadian Press reported:

KABUL - A senior U.S. defence official says all eight of the military troops and the contractor killed by an Afghan pilot Wednesday in Kabul were Americans.

The official says it is not certain what branch of the military the troops were in. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information has not yet been made public.

Officials said it was the deadliest episode to date of an Afghan turning against his own coalition partners.

The shooting took place in an Afghan Air Corps meeting room at Kabul airport. Officials said a veteran Afghan military pilot fired on the foreigners after an argument.

I pray that our new Government take a long hard look at the Training Role they are committing Canada to. We cannot afford more young Canadian lives for these Afghanis who have been fighting amongst themselves for centuries. Time to bring our Troops home.

Please show support for our troops and their families.

Re the letter about the widow's benefits...this applies as well to those more elderly widows that are denied their VIP and other benefits and are still paying taxes on the survivors benefits...this is particularly painful when their loved died as a result of past service injuries...it just doesnt seem to want to right itself no matter how you look at it...I often wonder if anyone in the seat of power really gives a thought to our widows and their children unless its to get their vote on the eve of an election...
