Canadians Once again into the Breech

The Modern Refueller at work

As cf-18 Fighters deploy from Bagotville and a tanker deploys from Trenton. I cannot help but think back to the great times I had as part of a Tanker crew in the old 707s. Hard to believe that it was in the 70s.

Never the less todays airmen carry on the tradition of the Canadian Military jetting of to a trouble spot. Safe journey and Godspeed to all the men and women enroute to an airbase in Italy. Enjoy the photo show.

Canada will help enforce Libya no-fly zone: PM

At least the Oppostion parties are in agreement with the Government on this issue.

Six CF-18 fighter jets are being deployed Friday afternoon from a Quebec military base to help enforce the United Nations no-fly zone over Libya.

Three planes left CFB Bagotville at 12:30 p.m. with a total of 50 crew members; departure times for the other three jets have not yet been confirmed.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Friday morning his government authorized the deployment to support the UN resolution passed late Thursday declaring a no-fly zone over Libya and authorizing the use of "all necessary measures" to stop attacks on Libyan civilians.

The Liberals, NDP and Bloc Quebecois all indicated their support for the deployment soon after it was announced.

"The message given by Canada is a strong one and the Canadian forces are prepared to respond," Lt.Gen. Andre Deschamps, chief of the air staff, told a news conference at the base before the planes departed.

"This departure means that Canada is fully engaged in this important mission and you can expect to be put into operations once you arrive in theatre," Dechamps told the departing crew. "I have full confidence in you and you will make a difference and do us proud."

"The message given by Canada is a strong one and the Canadian forces are prepared to respond," Well, I dont think that 6 Hornets is what I would consider a "Strong Message" but, at least it is a start. Hopefully this will convince some of our fellow Canadians that Fighter/Bomber/Inteceptor aircraft are still needed and will help reduce some of the resistance to the Joint Strike Fighter purchase.
