The new this past weekend is full of the Middle East and North African strife. The CBC story of the new equipment that has been issued to our soldiers in Afghanistan, was very interesting and I was happy to see that our Minister of Defence has not taken his eye of the ball in Afghanistan. It seems that headlines of unrest and civil war take away the coverage of our troops fighting the taliban.
Karzai stated his anger at the deaths of 9 young men in Afghanistan, after an air strike. Sad as this is civilians will always continue to be killed in any country in a state of war. I did not see his comments on the car bomb that killed a family of five. However he was very vocal to General Petreaus and the NATO mission. What does this man want from NATO??
An intriguing , interesting story about the SAS and British Diplomats. Unfortunately it may just have been a little early for the Brits to try and have diplomatic talks with the rebels. The news casts stated that the SAS team were inserted just south of Benghazi. Historically the SAS was founded as the (Desert Rats) 70 years ago. Just south of Benghazi.
I personally have a lot of admiration for the soldiers of Hereford, the Special Air Services. They carry out missions in the dark of night, in troubled areas in mufti. Brave soldiers dedicated to their Queen and country.

A small British diplomatic team sent to eastern Libya to initiate contacts with the rebel-backed opposition has left the country, U.K. Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement released Sunday.
Hague was quoted by Reuters as saying the team "experienced difficulties" in Benghazi, but there was no mention of a published report that said British soldiers assigned to the mission had been captured by opponents of Moammar Gadhafi.
The Sunday Times reported that up to eight special forces soldiers, armed but in plain clothes, were captured while escorting a junior British diplomat through rebel-held territory.
Meanwhile, Sky News reported the Special Air Service (SAS) team has left the country aboard British naval vessel HMS Cumberland.
Earlier, U.K. Defence Secretary Liam Fox said his government was in touch with the diplomatic team in Benghazi.
When pressed on whether the diplomatic team was in danger, Fox would only say that, "It's a very difficult situation to be able to understand in detail."
It now looks like our aircraft in Malta may be evacuating Canadians from Yemen. A few readers know my opinion on these Government Taxi services. If you sign on, to work in any, offshore expat job. Your company and yourself should have an evacuation plan in place. You should definitely not be dependant upon Government transport. KUDOS to Lavallin of Montreal , they had a well activated evacuation plan in Libya and they successfully removed 3000 workers safely from that country. Well done and no use of Government resources.
So as our Troops in Afghanistan prepare to wind down, please give them a thought and a prayer. A thought and prayer also for the crew of HMCS Charlottetown enroute to North Africa.
