So much for training

Canadians Always Vigilant

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - A small group of Afghan army soldiers shot at a Canadian convoy after a road accident southwest of Kandahar city.

The incident occurred on Boxing Day when a Canadian re-supply convoy struck an Afghan truck near the Dand district centre.

The Canadians stopped to fill out paperwork and then started off down the road.

But the Afghan soldiers didn't want the Canadians to leave the scene and fired their weapons at the convoy and into the air.

The Canadian military says none of its soldiers were injured, nor did they return fire.

The Canadian military says it is investigating the incident and the Afghan army plans to prosecute the troops involved.

This may seem like a tiny incident, but it behooves the possibility that some of these Afghan uniformed soldiers may in fact be taliban supporters. Our troops certainly have much  to check for, while working in this dangerous country.

Now a personal story:

Patdown rubdown at Halifax International

Destination Toronto from Halifax Airport, security issue!

27 Dec 2010  at approx 1315 local time.

My laptop was swabbed and I was told I must now be rubbed down and all my belongings searched. This include d re  examining items with the X-Ray, as well as personal search completely through my belongings, including my wallet.

This procedure I have absolutely no problem with. A most accommodating young lady conducted the procedures.

What I do have a bone to pick with is that When I asked what traces of chemicals they found I was told it is none of my business. I then asked for an address to send my query to but was told none available.

I feel that they should let me know if not at the moment but send it to me . They took down all my personal information with regard to this incident , what concerns me is that it is now in a tracking data base? What happens when I travel next? Will I be pulled over when my name shows up on a security screen? What happens if I try to fly to the USA or Europe will it show up somewhere along the line?  I feel that if you take down my personal info for security purposes I should be allowed a copy.

I have held Top Secret Clearance for many years during my military and Federal Government service. This security company  catsa is under sub contract to Shanahan security of Newfoundland. So dear readers any idea where I go to check up on my search etc, or will it lead to a myriad of sub contracters who really do not give a damn.

I say in closing I do appreciate the fact that they check all passengers, however I feel very strongly that they must disclose information to the party involved.

Remember support your Troops and their families.
