Christmas Visitors in Kandahar

Dapper as usual well done Don Cherry

Happily our troops suffered no casualties, over the Christmas holiday.

I was absolutely shocked and disgusted with comments on the  cbc story of the visit to our troops of Don Cherry. Who cares who covered Mr Cherry’s expenses. The important thing is that he cared enough to travel to a war zone and  meet and greet our soldiers.

I personally am not, nor ever have been a Hockey fan. However I am a retired soldier who spent many Christmases away from home. NATO and the UN. I know for a fact that visits by entertainers, VIP’s including Sports figures and men like Don Cherry were enjoyed by one and all. Whether Gordie Tapp, Julliet  or Turk Broda a visit from home was worth a million smiles and memories.

Well done Mr Cherry a fine Canadian proud of his country and the troops of Canada.

I thank Mr Cherry on behalf of the invisible army of Canada.

So to one and all years down the road someone who was a private or even a commander in Kandahar,  Dec 25, 2010 will always remember the visit of Don Cherry.

Well done to our MND, CDS, Don Cherry and the entertainers. Cherry was joined by other Canadian dignitaries, including Defence Minister Peter MacKay, International Co-Operation Minister Bev Oda, Alberta Tory MP Laurie Hawn, comedian Jimmy Mac and Quebec singer Dany St-Arneau.

The artillery round signed by Don Cherry will not be available on E bay. With a little luck it will be seen up close and personal by a gang of Insurgents.
