Mid week Thoughts

Aberdeen V Rangers

A Letter To the PM from Toronto

Well as we now know Canada will definitely be staying beyond 2011. Then they say 950 trainers plus support staff this will increase our troops to over a 1000 again.

Strange how NATO after receiving the news of Canada’s contribution come up with a statement that NATO will continue the fight beyond 2014?

Once again part on me feels we are being played on the world stage. Yes Canada will do a great job with training, Yes Canada will assist with reconstruction sadly there is another yes we may lose more soldiers.

I pray that we do not but, history is not with us in this mission.

NATO forces may still lead some combat operations in Afghanistan beyond 2014, the target date for shifting authority to Afghan troops, the alliance's top civilian in the country said Wednesday.

The comment was the latest indication that the U.S.-led military operation in Afghanistan will continue to be sizable well into the next decade, despite plans to draw down troops and transfer responsibility to the Afghan government.

Mark Sedwill said the end of 2014 was not a deadline. "It's a goal," he told reporters in the capital. "It's realistic but not guaranteed."

On a Happier Note

I was pleasantly surprised at a couple of photos I received from my nephew in Scotland. The two photos attached are of a game between Aberdeen “ Dons” and the Glasgow Rangers. The fans displayed poppies in Remembrance. What a nice way to remember the troops.

I also received one of the best Travel Videos I have ever seen. Former peacekeepers may tour Jerusalem, Abu Dhabi or many other places on this link, including Charlottetown:

Last but not least a Radio interview and statement from Toronto is on the PDf link. As you may well be aware the Gitmo releases in the UK are filing lawsuits against the UK Government.
