Red Friday
I would publicly like to say thank you to the Students and Staff of Tremploy Charlottetown for their wonderful invitation to share Remembrance Day memories with them. I attach a Pdf with a few Photos and my thanks to them. This PDf also includes the answer to the question that they stumped me with. I called a friend no luck no chance to play 50/50 so I looked it up on Wilkipedia.
Prime Minister Harper reluctantly, agrees to extend the Canadian mission in Afghanistan. Not in a combat role but in a training role. This in its self sounds ok, however our trainers and mentors will still be in the line of fire. They will still have to patrol with the Afghan Nationals to insure that they have paid attention in training. This is more dangerous from the point that on a patrol not only do our soldiers have to be watchful for insurgents, ied’s and any other hostile. They must also keep an eye on the afghan troops, who may well be supporters of the talioban. What a quandary to place our troops in.
The part about being inside the wire is actually a misnomer as they bulk of the training will be in Kabul as opposed to Kandahar Province. Far outside the wire as the expression goes.
May the Lord protect our troops whatever mission they cover in Afghanistan.
The media has reported that the numbers in attendance across Canada’s Remembrance Ceremonies Increased dramatically. This is a good sign that our military will never be forgotten.
In the UK Her Majesty the Queen presided over ceremonies at the Cenotaph which was unveiled 90 years ago Nov 11 1920, to observe the end of WW1 and the great number of Soldiers who never came home.
I received this e mail the other day with regard to “to the Stan and Back” Initiative
Hi Robby,
Cheri Elliott here. We spoke earlier this year regarding my initiative “To the Stan and Back”. I was wondering if you could help me get the word out to help garner support during this Remembrance week. The following is an update on the project:
Thus far I have raised over $70,000.00 in cash and certificates and this has been distributed to Canadian Forces members and bases that were involved in the last tour. (That was my son’s tour). I have included an old news release for an event we held here on the Hill. Glass Tiger played at the party (thanks to the efforts of Minister MacKay) and Air Canada gave away a trip for two anywhere in NA including their sunshine destinations. I feel it is only fitting that the troops that are currently serving as well as the ones who will serve on the last tour are also honoured. As this is the month to remember our soldiers would it be possible to find willing sponsors from across Canada to encourage businesses and individuals across Canada to support this initiative? This project varies from “Soldier On and Canadian Forces Military Support Group as it targets each and every soldier who has served rather than a specific group such as injured soldiers although they are of course included in it All monies raised are accounted for by D’Arcy Barker Money Management Council out of Brandon MB.
If you are able to point me in the right direction with this I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks Robby! I see you were able to get a connection for your friend to apply to sing at the next Canada Day celebration. Congrats!
Best Regards,
Cheri Elliott
