Monday Morning Musings.

Always remember our Heroes

UN peacekeepers A Beret of Blue
Fatalities to Date Afghanistan Conflict

Once again a Red Rally was held at the DVA Atrium. A hearty thank you and well done again to Charlene and her merry band of Volunteers. Sadly it still appears that staff at the DVA are far more interested in walking to their Lunch Hour. I counted 14 people walking down the stairs in full view of Rally Attendees while Our National Anthem was being sung. Have these staff no pride in Canada nor in themselves disgraceful is all that I can say.

I counted 106 people in attendance these included Volunteers, the Legion Colour party, guest speakers, some uniformed staff and the same group of Proud Canadians who attend each and every one of the    bi- annual events, that the Military Families Services provide in honour of our soldiers. Thank you to all who spared an hour of their time.

I am happy that our new Veterans Ombudsman has been named. Guy Parent is a former para rescue tech, who will be filling the ample boots of Pat Stogran. Thank you Pat for your formidable actions in waking up the Government with regard to our Veterans. Knowing Guy from my military time he will not only continue in the direction, you have pioneered . He  will fight for the rights, of all Veterans. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/11/05/veterans-ombudsman-parent.html

As Remembrance day approaches this coming Thursday, it is with disbelief that I read about the babblings of Michael Ignatieff. Blue Berets? No Blue Berets? Defenders of the environment??  To wage battle over Global warming??

Soldiers as a fine Canadian PM once said. Canada does not wish their soldiers to be simply “Hewers of wood and carriers of water”. This was John Diefenbakers quote from the Christian Bible Joshua 9.

My friends Debbie and Robbie, Obviously, CLOSE THE DOOR is not a representative of VAC - and praise be for that. I am only hopeful their true identity will be revealed somehow, and the DOOR will be CLOSED on them as they exit. Their comments are derogatory and disrespectful. If they have cojones, which I doubt, they may admit to their error and true identity. VAC, when it opened its doors way back when (I wasn't even here then, and I know), was intended as a fully accessible building by the people it serves, our Veterans and CF Members, and members of the general public. This is exemplified in the Red Rally held in the Atrium the last number of times, as well as the guided tours available of said Atrium to the gen pop. In the past, VAC hosted many other events, such as "We Will Meet Again", an excellent evening of period music and food, much enjoyed by the Veterans in attendance. CLOSE THE DOORS, if you are indeed a VAC employee, shame on you. Your comments, as Robby points out, only reemphasize the public opinion of the work we try to accomplish. I am a VAC employee, have been for five years, and love my work. But I also make a point of attending the Red Rallys, and even take time away from my "valuable" lunch half-hour to attend (note the sarcasm), and to assist Charlene in any way I can. In this small way, I pay respect to the men and women who have served our country, and the men and women who serve today, and who I am equally proud to say I serve with as a Reservist. For approximately 100 VAC staff members to "show up", is grossly insignificant. There are many times over that many staff members working in DJM alone. Perhaps, Madame Tining, this is something which should be addressed. It is far too obvious too few staff members give a damn.

    NOT YOUR BUILDING
    - November 9, 2010 at 09:40:24

TO CLOSE THE DOORS. What arrogance you have to say using YOUR building. The building belongs to each and every Canadian. Your attitude and self centered attitude is what every veteran runs into when they try and file a claim for injuries. All across Canada this is what the veterans are protesting now. Attitudes and arrogance of people at DVA likes yourself.

Well that is a nice thank you for letting you use our building. If I were in control of the building I would think twice about letting you guys back in there!Did you ever stop to think that we only have 30 min for lunch. We are in there taking phone calls, seeing veterans, and addressing some tuff issues. Then we have to read your comments that say we don't care when we get enough of it from every paper in the country!Everything we do we are in ther giving are support to the troops. You worked at VAC.You know that we are very busy there. We wear red on Fridays. We show our support! I see that there was one hundred or so that were attending.Maybe that all the people your going to get.Try moving your rally around.Make yourself more noticeable.Advertise more.Get out there in the public. If you sit back and wait for the people to come to you that's not going to happen. We will go on giving our troops the support that they need.I suggest that you Ms. Reid step out of your shell and read the hurtful comments that you place here because we are here to help out ALL veterans including you!

This message is to "Close the Doors' Use YOUR Building this building belongs to the taxpayers of Canada.30 Minutes for lunch Guaranteed every day hmmm Our Soldiers Your Soldiers may not get a lunch break sitting down comfortably for days on end. As for negative publicity about VAC use it and learn from it there is obviously a problem. not all VAC employees are complacent. As for moving the Rallys around I have been on this isle for 4 years we have held them in Stratford, On Grafton street as well as in the public Atrium of the DVA HQ.Advertise if you are a reader of the guardian it was advertised every day or two for two weeks, in the military Blog.As for sitting waiting for people to arrive, This does not give VAC staff the right to walk around during our National Anthem. Have you no PRIDE. so all I see in your comment is that we should feel sorry for you earning your salary and getting a short lunch which you cannot give up for a Rally held twice a year. So my friend please use a proper name and e mail address should you desire a personal e mail on this issue. I pray that you will attend a Remembrance service on Thursday 2 minutes silence is far less than a half hour lunch break. Perhaps you can spare our troops and veterans that. Thankyou for your Comment. Robby McRobb

To CLOSE THE DOOR, why are you so afraid to use your own name? Obviously you know who I am as you said in your comment that I am a Veteran and I worked at VAC. At no time did I work at VAC, I was placed at VAC under the TAP, (do you even know what that stands for?) I was still in the military and being paid by DND. I saw a lot of different/interesting things going on while I was there and I am not saying that everyone at VAC is the same, nor did I say in my comment any where that you don't care. I am not sure what shell you are referring to that I am in but the only comments I put in this blog were my personal observations and were all true, they were not meant to be hurtful. And by the way what is tuff and ther, and you should at least be able to use proper grammer and spelling, especially for someone working at a job in Veterans Affairs. Would you care to volunteer for the PEI Military Family Service Centre, I am sure Charlene could use you as a Volunteer for advertising. She can be reached at 892-8999.

Robby, I know you and I have attended every one of Charlene's Red Rallys which she works hard to have two of a year. It is indeed disappointing to see the number of VAC employees who will not spare 1/2 an hour of their work time then one hour of their lunch every six months to attend. I also noticed people coming back from lunch, would see something going on in the atrium and would come into the building from another entrance. I have never seen Brian Ferguson at any of these events, where are you Mr Ferguson?
