A Great article about Military Cooks the Guys and gals who feed our troops in dangerous places, as well as at Home Bases and Ships.
Remembering With Food
Throughout the year, we at Company’s Coming consider the meaning behind each holiday and the traditions associated with it. But what about when the holiday is a sombre occasion like Remembrance Day?
Petty Officer 2nd Class Gerry Kopp
Since our business is food, what immediately come to mind are the cooks of the Canadian Forces who feed our troops, especially when they are away from home. I jumped at the opportunity to hear the first-hand stories of several of the cooks at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton: Petty Officer 2nd Class Gerry Kopp, Master Cpl. Dave Rodney and Master Cpl. Don Fraser.
Master Cpl. Dave Rodney
It’s easy to take our home kitchens, and our home-cooked meals, for granted. I can honestly say—even more so after having had the chance to meet these cooks of CFB Edmonton—that I have great admiration for what they do for the troops of the Canadian Forces.
- Janet Fowler, EditorI was proud to be a military cook and can relate with the difficult conditions in the field and on board a moving Ship or Boeing 707. Cooks may be the butt of jokes and name calling BUT they are the ones who maintain the morale in any unit. Bravo Zulu to Canada's Caterers of the military.
