Montag morgen Träumereien

Canada United Forever

Veterans Statement

The Title this Morning is in German Monday Morning Musings

Wow there is no shortage of Blog material this week.

First I would like to weigh in on the upcoming Veterans Rally on Nov 06. I am a Veteran, a Proud Canadian and a Non Believer in political protesting on the streets. Infact I cannot for the life of me understand why my fellow Veterans would march on Nov 06 across Canada. In all protests you have the fanatical fringe who will join in to create chaos. You will also have opposition protesters like the  peaceniks of Canada. I feel that our parliamentary procedures are the proper way to go on these issues.I all fairness I add as a PDfile the letter to Veterans across Canada. I know that parliamentary  decisions on any matter takes a lot of time. Sadly that is something that Veterans do not have a lot of.(Time) but we do have a large voting populace with the power to swing votes to candidates that will address our problems in the halls of parliament.

The second matter is the War Resisters that are using Canada as a Cop Out. They should all be arrested by Military Police and Mounties and returned to the nearest US Base. They are AWOL which is against both US and Canadian Laws.

Canada does not need these people in our country taking Jobs, Welfare , legal assistance while our Canadians are allied in the war effort against Terrorism. The NDP and the Bloc want these deserters to remain in Canada. Support our Troops, Our Veterans and their families

Meanwhile Gilles Duceppe tells the US that Quebec is preparing to separate. What of the young men of Valcartier who are dying for CANADA and indeed that includes Quebec. Where is the Bloc respect for our soldiers. Where is the NDP respect for our troops, by having,  deserters remain in Canada free while others cover their duties in the military that they Voluntarily signed up to serve  protect. Whether it be Iraq, Afghanistan or Patrolling the Persian Gulf for pirates.

The US Deserters signed on to serve their country, this expands to serving NATO and the allied Coalitions. They too like Canadians can use their Vote to change things.

While our service men and women are fighting the good fight, I feel as a Veteran it is far more productive to Support our troops and to Support the politicians who share this feeling. So please Veterans of Canada why waste time protesting on a Saturday in front of empty buildings, take your placards and wear your Blue Berets and Medals and go to a Remembrance day ceremony, show your concern for the Veterans Charter and pay your respects to comrades, who have passed away, whether by age or circumstance.

That is the Canadian Way.

Charlene, I note your comments , however it is not a disservice to our men and women in uniform. 3 different Veterans groups have sent out a message to Veterans that they should not show affiliation with those units if they chosse to protest. In fact I think a protest respectfully held on Remembrance Day would be far better to get Veterans views out there. For example after the Prayers and the Last Post has been played. To simply turn their backs silently when the PM Or local politicians place their Wreath This would gain Veterans a far higher profile. Other than protesting to empty buildings. Thanks again for your comment.

Hi Robby...Im in agreement about getting out and voting...aIm in agreement bout getting out and showing respect on Remembrance Day...Im in agreement about thinking twice re allowing those who have signed up (not drafted) trying to leg it over our borders...as for Gilles and those like him...not on my radar...as far as Im concerned, they are a non-enitity...this is the 40th anniversary of the FLQ Crisis, and they all should be ashamed....to those advocating that it didnt happen - bull! - I was living on base in Petawawa at the time and let me tell you ... IT DID HAPPEN and it wasnt pretty! Re the protest on the 6th...as just one Cdn who believes strongly in the freedoms our loved ones wear the uniform to protect, I dont see the problem with any peaceful protest...it is the cornerstone of our ability to assemble at will and voice our opinion without fear of reprisal...to downplay its significance would be a disservice not only to our men and women in uniform, but to ourselves as a nation...I have participated in many peaceful, some loud, some silent rallies and protests over the years and sometimes it is the visual showing of numbers that has led to discussion and/or change that is required.

I am your side in this protest issue. It definitely goes against everything we were ever taught in the army. Also goes against my principles. Vote don't Shout comes to mind. It was not mentioned but in Ottawa the RCMP who will be monitoring any protests on the Hill are also covered by the new Veterans Charter, this certainly puts them in an awkward position.
