Midweek Meanderings

Minister of Defence in Kandahar Thanksgiving

First the UAE cancels Camp Mirage for Canadian Troops, then the UAE forbids Canadian Military aircraft to use their air space. Dubai and the Emirates may be rolling in $ $ $ $  but they are not secure militarily. Canada, UK, USA and other NATO countries are facing off with the taliban on a daily basis. These actions in Afghanistan also help to protect the UAE and other Mid East countries from the expansion of extremists into their borders. The taliban are likened to a creeping weed of death and destruction. They are against any mid east country where westernisation is in place. One can buy a drink at bars and hotels in Dubai, at the airport and in the resorts. Do they believe that by barring Canada they are helping their own. I seriously doubt it.

So Minister MacKay, the CDS and senior staffers in the military will remove themselves from Dubai and its environs, simply moving to Cyprus, Germany perhaps the UK or to Azerbaijan where they will continue to logistically support our troops. A glitch yes, but still just a glitch. As Peter MacKay said Canadian troops are resilient and they will overcome this obstacle. So I would offer this to anyone travelling to the Emirates us British Airways Lufthansa, or indeed Air France if you cannot fly Air Canada.

This quote from Peter MacKay Canada’s finest ever MND;

The Camp Mirage base near Dubai was to play a central role in the planned withdrawal of troops from Kandahar following the July 2011 end to the combat mission. MacKay said the military is now examining other options.

"We'll always act in Canada's best interests and one thing I know about the Canadian Forces, they're very adaptable," MacKay said. "They have alternative plans, they have contingency plans. With that in mind we're going through the various options that are before us right now.

"And we'll continue to do our mission here in Afghanistan ... and we'll find other ways to support this mission through other hubs in the region," he added.

Meanwhile in Kabul an enemy attack on a downed Chinook Kills an Afghan Interpreter, and wounds 8 NATO  soldiers. A Civilian version of the workhorse C-130 the Lockheed L-100 crashes into the mountains off Kabul airport with apparently no survivors. Our troops are still deep in the action and I pray we lose no one else before they start to return home in a few months.

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- An Afghan interpreter was killed and eight people were wounded when a rocket-propelled grenade was fired at a coalition helicopter in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said.

The incident occurred in Kunar province. A CH-47 Chinook helicopter had just landed and had been off-loading when the RPG was fired into the cargo bay. Seven ISAF service members and an Afghan Border Police officer were injured.

Afghan and ISAF soldiers secured the landing site.

The NATO-led command on Tuesday also reported incidents in other parts of the country.

A coalition service member died in an IED attack on Tuesday in southern Afghanistan. It didn't release the nationality of the person and the precise location of the incident.

A Taliban senior leader who leads up to 20 fighters in the Sistani area of the Marjah district in Helmand province was captured overnight. Marjah is the area where coalition forces conducted a major offensive earlier this year.

An airstrike in northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province on Monday killed two insurgents. The actions targeted a Taliban senior leader.

Meanwhile back in North America the Pschyo Major of Ft Hood has had his trial delayed fro the purposes of the defence getting their strategy in order. This too is a Farce, unlike our Captain Semrau who acted in mercy. This depraved Major went out of his way to deliberately kill his American brothers in uniform at home in Texas.

What a world our troops are operating in.

Please remember them and their families in your prayers, especially on the run up to Remembrance Day.
