Red Friday 08 Oct
Good Day,
This has been a busy week with stories in the media, NATO wants Canada to extend the mission, a member of the invisible army that lost a son wants Canada to extend. What will the Government do. On the other hand some anti Afghanistan people put a video on You Tube. telling Canada to stop recruiting students. Our poor Prime Minister and MND. They will face flak whatever choice is made. Currently the troops will cease hostilities in July 2011. The decision as to how many will stay in Afghanistan to protect Canadian NGO’s and projects is yet to be announced.
I must say that the planned protests for DVA Rights and the extension of Col Stogran as Veterans Ombudsman worry me. I do not believe in protests simply because they draw protesters for other causes as well. Normally with opposing views. I would sooner wait till the MPs whom we have elected make a decision.
As a Vet that lost money on clawback, and as a Canadian. I do not agree with the clawback, nor do I agree with the cessation of the contract for Col Stogran. He was appointed for 3 years, that term is up. However I see no reason , (other than the fact that he is rattling closets in the DVA,) not to extend him.
As the very first Ombudsman he had a helluva job and is finally starting to see progress. Quite simply extend him a further 3 years and let him finish the job he started.
On the protest side the Charlottetown protest is planned for 06 November a Saturday?? Why protest to an empty building? I cannot see the logic in that.
Our Support the troops Red Rally is scheduled for 5 Nov. That I believe in ! ! !
I would like to see a Tsunami of red shirts at that Bi-annual Rally. The men and women serving in Afghanistan and other parts of the world are more in need of support, than some Veterans who have a bone to pick with the DVA.
So let’s be Canadian No Physical Protest, do it by Government petition if you must, but do not try and get 15 minutes of fame screaming at an empty building or opposing protester.
On a lighter tone, this new Memorial was recently unveiled at CFB Petawawa;
