Good Morning Monday, First a very Happy 55th birthday to my baby sister Linda.
Operation Nanook in Canada’s North is ongoing as any news a holic would be aware off. I thought for today I would give a brief history of our “Canadian Rangers” a volunteer unit that protects and preserves Canada’s northernmost territory.
Prime Minister Harper is a progressive leader in the protection of Canada’s Northern Borders, and he along with our MND Peter MacKay plans to increase their numbers to 5000 by 2012. This is an action that is long overdue. Well done our PM and MND.
Modern Canadian Rangers can trace their history back to the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers (PCMR). Formed on March 3, 1942, the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers were volunteers who patrolled, performed military surveillance, and provided local defence of the coastline of British Columbia and in the Yukon against the wartime threat of a possible Japanese invasion.
At their height, the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers consisted of 15,000 volunteers in 138 companies. The Pacific Coast Militia Rangers were officially disbanded on September 30, 1945. Patrol area of the PCMR The PCMR was composed of 138 companies under three major patrol areas, which were Vancouver Island, the lower Fraser Valley and the Bridge River area.
Some of the principal officers of the PCMR were Lieutenant-Colonel C.W. Peck, Lieutenant-Colonel A.L. Coyote and Major H. Ashby. There are currently more than 4,400 Canadian Rangers serving in five Canadian Ranger Patrol Groups (CRPG) in 163 communities. By 2012, they are expected to reach strength of 5,000.

On a Good News note we end this Monday’s musings: PROUD Canadian Youth, our Cadets. They say a parent's love can combat anything - even a cold, rainy day at summer camp.

The pipes and drums band marches in Camp Argonaut's graduation parade Friday.
Despite less than desirable weather, the Argonaut Army Cadet Summer Training Centre celebrated the end of summer with nearly 900 cadets and staff Friday as proud parents, friends and supporters looked on.
Camp Argonaut is located on Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. The ceremonies took place outdoors on Argonaut Parade Square, and included awards presentations and marching band demonstrations showcasing the musical talents of Argonaut's cadets. As awards were announced over a loudspeaker, the names of cadet corps in all of the Atlantic provinces, as well as the United Kingdom, were heard.
Brig.-Gen. Tony Stack, commander of Land Force Atlantic Area, presided over the event. Army, Navy and Airforce Cadets across Canada are our next group of front line soldiers sailors and airmen. Young Canadians interested in the defence of their Country Thank You one and all. Wise words for all Cadets: "The only place where success comes before work is a dictionary."
