Red Friday and the Invisible Army

Boomer

Red Friday a day to show your colours in support of our troops.

I had two very nice meetings earlier this week. I had to travel to the Halifax airport and while waiting for my grandsons to arrive, I started speaking with a lady who had a wee dog, with her waiting for passengers as well.  I had on my Red Support your troops vest and she mentioned her son was in the army. We spoke and I could feel the pride emanating from her aura as she told me of Ryan a member of 2 RCR. He has been in the army 18 months, he had recently returned from Peru, where he had been part of a training and mentoring team of various troops from Canada, USA and Various  South American soldiers. Helo drops, sea landings etc. were all part of this 3 week exercise. I spoke with Ryan briefly and once again I could see the glow of pride in his Mother’s eyes. I told them of the Invisible Army web site and the Military Support centres.  His battalion are on warning order for deployment to the Congo.

That God forsaken place that Canada sent peacekeepers to 50 years ago.  Our troops who will once again become Peacekeepers will be awed by the culture shock, of yet another poor country ruled by a dictator. Poor people, corruption and the lack of law and order. Cruel tribal gangs roam the country side.  Once again Canadians will be in the forefront.

My second meeting was actually a couple of e mails and a phone call from Maureen Eykelboom. Sadly it was the fourth anniversary of that dreaded phone call telling her that her Medic Son  Andrew had been killed by a cowardly Taliban ied. This lady and her family operate a living memorial for their son and loved one.  Boomers Legacy: http://boomerslegacy.ca/

May God Bless her and her family and give them strength to see them through life. Andrews legacy will carry on for a long time.

Remember to wear red and Support our Troops.
