Aug 09 Monday Morning Musings

Canada mans UNOP Cyprus

Today Monday the ninth is Canada’s Peacekeeping Memorial day. A brief message to all peacekeepers retired or serving:

CANADIAN PEACEKEEPING VETERANS ASSOCIATION

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE – NATIONAL PEACEKEEPERS' DAY 2010

On 9 August 2010 Canada will commemorate the fourth National Peacekeepers' Day. As Peacekeepers, this day is one of utmost importance for us as it recognizes the crucial service that Peacekeepers have given to our nation and the world. The international image and the perception of Canada, and the respect of the entire world, has been moulded by and reflects the dedication and sacrifice made by all of us in our duties as Peacekeepers. We can be rightfully proud to have served in the service of peace. Although this day gives well-deserved recognition to Peacekeepers, it is also a sad and solemn day as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for peace, including those nine who so tragically lost their lives in the shooting down of the Buffalo aircraft in Syria on August 9th in 1974. We also grieve for the over 150 who have given their lives in fighting for peace in Afghanistan and for the many hundreds of wounded.

Despite the sadness which is naturally associated with this day, it is primarily a day for Peacekeepers to celebrate their pride and join other Peacekeepers in comradeship.

Hopefully the photo will show one of my favourite a Canadian on watch at an Observation Post in Cyprus

Next is some information with regard to a Coast to Coast charity ride for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children and also the Wounded Warriors Group. Check out this link for full information: http://www.mpnmrr.ca/

More  Canadians helping Canadians.

Last  but by no means least for this Monday.  I would like to once again thank Jeanette Arsenault for her visit to the Run for Wishes stop in Stratford,  during her vacation here on PEI. Jeanette is a strong supporter of both our troops and of Canada’s Invisible Army.

I certainly hope that this new site accepts a couple of photos today. Have a great week and please show your support for our Troops
