A Canadian Chinook had a hard landing in Afghanistan and a fire broke out. Fortunately only minor injuries were sustained by the crew and passengers. Stay safe our fine Canucks

Also a hearty Island Welcome to members of

426 Sqn Herc Crew and the course members of the current SAR Tech course. They will be utilising the old base  at Slemon park for takeoff and landings, while conducting SAR tech training in and around the maritimes.  For a week or so,  best of luck to the brave men and women seeking to earn the coveted SAR tech wings. These men and women are the bravest of the brave. Parachuting or being dropped by a line from a Helo. They conduct life saving missions at sea and on land. Oft times under extremely arduous and difficult conditions. Rain, Fog, Wind, Snow, heavy seas. No matter the weather they will drop in and do first aid and evacuation of the sick and injured. Well done to these young Canadians. They are part of what makes Canada Proud.

Last but not least this red Friday the HMCS Queen Charlotte crew members run for wishes is in its final stages Thank you again to a group of fine Canadians.

So please show your support for our troops wear Red Today and give a smile or a wave to the runners should you see them.

The training is for the C-130 crew members who have been or are about to be posted to one of the 3 squadrons that use the C-130 for SAR operations. SAR operations involve flying search patterns, dropping illumination flares, airdropping rescue and survival equipment on land and at sea and pumps at sea. They also drop SAR Technicians to land and sea rescue situations and work as a team with SAR helicopters. SAR operations involve a totally different role for the whole C-130 crew and the training introduces them to the operational planing and preparations involved and then to the techniques involved in searching and airdropping the different types of equipment and personnel. It takes a considerable amount of skill and teamwork to airdrop the equipment and personnel so that everything ends up where it's needed. SAR operations seldom take place under ideal conditions and in fact they are usually done in the worst of conditions because that's usually when someone finds themselves in need of help.
