Mid-Week Meanderings (2)

May Lt O'Donnell Rest in Peace.

Soldiers lay their weapons down as they pray for the first New Zealander KIA. Lt Tim O'Donnell.

KABUL - New Zealand suffered its first combat death of the Afghan war during an ambush in one of Afghanistan's most peaceful provinces, officials said Wednesday.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the Tuesday attack against a New Zealand military patrol in Bamiyan province, a central area where most of the ethnic Hazara population opposes the insurgents. Two New Zealand soldiers and an Afghan translator were wounded, New Zealand Defence Force Chief Lt. Gen. Jerry Mateparae told reporters in Wellington.

He said the three-vehicle patrol was attacked with a roadside bomb, rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire.

My Thoughts prayers and condolences to the family, loved ones and his military brothers for this sacrifice of his youthful life.

The taliban have created a new code of Conduct...for what that is worth??

A Pakistani man reads code of conduct reportedly published and distributed by Taliban, in Chaman, a Pakistani border town situated along the Afghanistan border on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. An updated Taliban code of conduct urges the insurgents' fighters to avoid killing civilians and seizing weapons and money from villagers in an attempt to win the hearts and minds of Afghans who are also being courted by international forces. The title of the booklet reads ' Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, code of conduct for Mujahideen.'

These sad misguided taliban insurgents cannot believe that anyone would actually believe this so called code of conduct. After all the atrocities they have carried out.

For our Canadian Troops I send good wishes and may you be guided by, the Lord and his teachings. We want all of you to return safely.

Finally on P.E.I. the Run for Wishes conducted annually by the sailors of HMCS Queen Charlotte is on going. Final spot will be their arrival at the Sobeys Check point in Stratford at approx 1,400. Be there if you can , wear red and show your full support.

Sadly the P.E.I. portion of the Ride for Dads cross Canada Tour was welcomed with rain.Best of Luck to all riders.
