Hyundai has chosen the Los Angeles Auto Show to introduce its all-new 2012 Azera sedan to the North American market. The second-generation Azera is now the fifth Hyundai model to be styled under the Korean automaker's Fluidic Sculpture design theme, following the Accent, Elantra, Sonata and Tucson.

The new Azera features a body style that resembles the latest offerings from Buick and Lexus, but the Azera is still wholly recognizable as a Hyundai. A chrome grille and HID headlights dominate the front end, while wraparound LED taillights and dual exhaust tips integrated into the rear end help complete the classy design.

Slotting between Hyundai's Sonata and Genesis sedans in terms of its size, the Azera boasts best-in-class front head room and front leg room according to Hyundai. Leather seating is standard as is a 10-way power driver's seat and an eight-way front passenger seat. There's also a standard navigation system with a seven-inch touch screen, and a standard rearview camera. In addition to using the WVGA touchscreen, drivers can also control the navigation system with voice commands by speaking to a microphone mounted in the headliner.

Two audio systems are available for the 2012 Hyundai Azera. The standard equipment is a seven-speaker system with Apple iPod, USB and auxiliary input jacks as well as AM/FM/Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 compatibility. An optional Infinity Logic 7 audio system pumps out 550 watts through 12 speakers and an eight-inch subwoofer. The Infinity system is also equipped with an XM Satellite Radio interface in the head unit and a Bluetooth hands-free telephone system with voice recognition as standard.

A 3.3-litre Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) V6 provides 293 horsepower and the engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with a manual control feature known as Shiftronic. Fuel economy is expected to be around 11.76 L/100km in the city and 8.11 L/100km on the highway. In order to aid fuel economy, the 2012 Azera's powertrain is equipped with an Active Eco setting that can modify the engine and transmission characteristics for "more than a five percent improvement in real-world fuel economy" according to Hyundai.

Notable safety features include electronic stability control and vehicle stability management, traction control, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution. The Azera also has nine standard airbags which include dual front airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags and a knee airbag for the driver.

The all-new 2012 Hyundai Azera was revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show and is expected to come to market early in 2012.
