The Jack Frost Festival is well on its way to being ready for February's festivities using only ice and snow from rinks and a snow machine.
Now, workers are excited to see a fresh layer of snow on the ground to help keep them where they need to be while building this year's sixth annual Jack Frost Children's WinterFest in Charlottetown.
Myrtle Jenkins-Smith, CEO of Tourism Charlottetown and the P.E.I. Convention Partnership, said they are happy about the amount of snow P.E.I. got and the builders are ahead of pace in terms of building.
This year's festival will be extended to four days, including Monday, Feb. 15, which coincides with Islander Day. The theme is Catch the Olympic Spirit.
"We love the snow, and we will take more of it if it comes," said Jenkins-Smith.
Organizers of the event have announced another Olympic component to this year's festival.
Throughout the weekend, live coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics on CTV will be projected onto the Jack Frost Sno-lympic wall. Organizers say this will give Jack Frost guests a unique and fun opportunity to cheer on Canadian athletes while also enjoying the festival.
The Bell Aliant Snow Kingdom site build is well underway and great progress has been made. It will be made from 70 tonnes of compacted snow.
The gigantic CAT Run, presented by The CAT Rental Store, is one of the most popular family attractions and is already under construction. The City of Charlottetown and Island Coastal organizers have been busy collecting snow from all over Charlottetown since the first big snowstorm of the new year.

I wonder if the Festival organizers received approval from the 2010 Olympic Committee for the apparent Olympic branding uses that the Festival appears to be taking advantage of? Particularly, if there are for-profit sponsors of the festival who may gain some profile from the associations made between the Festival and the Olympics.
VANOC branding infringement guidelines are found below. I know that VANOC takes these things seriously. http://www.vancouver2010.com/more-2010-information/about-vanoc/the-vancouver-2010-brand/protecting-the-brand/ -
